When it comes to saving money, maintenance should be at the forefront of your mind.  Regular brake inspections can prevent you from having to purchase new rotors in some cases saving $100s on a brake job.  Regular alignment inspections can point out loose or malfunctioning steering and suspension parts and prevent premature tire wear BEFORE it happens.
Perhaps the single most important maintenance item that you can perform is the engine oil change.  During an oil change at Auto Go, our professional techs will check the following:

1. All belts and hoses for leakage, signs of dry rot, cracks or other visible signs of damage.
2.  All fluid levels.  This includes brake fluid, automatic transmission fluid, windshield washer fluid, engine coolant, power steering fluid, and where applicable transfer case lubricant, manual transmission fluid, and front and rear differential lubricant.  Correct fluid levels as needed.  Report engine coolant freeze point.
3.  Tire condition and pressure.  Report tires needing attention and correct pressures.
4.  Lubricate and visually inspect chassis and steering components. (note: a full steering and suspension inspection will not be done during an oil change inspection because the weight of the vehicle has to be off the suspension to properly check these components)
5.  Change engine oil and engine oil filter.
6.  Inspect exhaust system for damage.
7.  Inspect for fluid leakage from all visible components.
8.  Inspect the engine air filter and on some models the cabin air filter.

Most problems can be detected free of additional charge during an oil change service preventing catastrophic and expensive failure.  Repairing a leaking water pump that was seen during an oil change can prevent the engine from overheating in the future and leaving you stranded on the side of the road not only having to pay for a tow bill, but also possibly having to replace the engine if it got hot enough!
I can't stress how important it is to perform routine maintenance and how much money it can actually save you.  Read the maintenance section in your owner's manual and FOLLOW IT!!!  There is no reason why your vehicle shouldn't go 200,000 miles or more if you follow the manufacturers recommended maintenance schedule.
