Message: Hey Jimmy, how ya been. Haven't talked to you in a while, how is business. Things are changing here at Reliable. Both of our best and only Trans. techs left to start their own business. Both of them were on my team and one was my team leader, so i've been promoted to team leader by default. Other than that things have been pretty busy here. Gotta go, talk to you later.

I think for new customers it's very important to have a nice exterior appearance. If it looks bad, they won't come in even if you all do great work

THE AUTO GO BLOG
Topic: What the "Internet" Has To Say....
View past posts HERE.
Saturday, August 1, 2009
Hello all and welcome back to the blog!  I know it's been awhile since I've done a new post, but the summer season is here and that means busy busy busy!

Today's discussion will have to do with the "picture" the "internet" paints about auto repair in general.  I've spent the last few hours scouring the internet as my children are taking a nap this afternoon and let me tell you...  I was hard pressed to find ANYTHING positive that anyone had to say about any repair shop period.  Independent, dealership, or otherwise.  It's like everyone thinks that automotive shops' sole purpose for existance is to relieve you of every last dollar you have.  I'd like to take this opportunity to put those allogations to rest.

One of the most often criticized aspects of independent shops is the selling of maintenance when it's not needed.  Let me start by saying if you have waited until you vehicle NEEDS maintenance, you've waited too long because if it NEEDS maintenance then most likely something has gone wrong.  The idea is to perform maintenance BEFORE it is actually NEEDED so that the chance for an actual problem is avoided.

A huge selling point for car manufacturers is low maintenance.  Often times I see where some manufacturers recommend oil changes at 7,500 mile intervals.  Now it's totally up to the consumer when to actually change their motor oil, but under no circumstances do I ever recommend waiting 7,500 miles to change engine oil.  The absolute most that I would recommend
that can cause major failures that are well outside of and have nothing to do with maintenance schedules. However I can say with utmost confidence that the VAST majority of these major failures are caused by lack of maintenance and if you plan to keep your vehicle to the 200,000 mile mark, the single most important thing you can do to make sure it gets there without any major (such as engine or transmission) failures is to do maintenance at regular intervals and use quality products.  The OEM service schedule is a GUIDELINE and thats all it is.  The fact is a lot of people don't maintain their vehicles even as well as the OEM recommends and that will assure a major failure and I suppose that's why there is a demand for engine,  transmission and driveline component remanufacturing companies.  If everyone maintained their vehicles as they were supposed to, vehicles as a whole would go farther with less overall cost incurred over the life of the vehicle.  That would mean these companies would be in trouble!!!!

If you want your vehicle maintained properly with no "price gouging" or "rip offs" come see us.  We'll be happy to spend as much time as is needed with you to discuss a maintenance plan tailored to you and your vehicle.  And always remember cheapest is not always the best as neither is always the most expensive.  The age old saying "you get what you pay for" is very true pertaining to automotive service and repair.  Find a shop that is willing to listen to you and your concerns.  I'm happy to say you'll find that kind of service at Auto Go.  Thanks for reading!

Jimmy
going on milage is 5,000 using only a major brand fully synthetic engine oil.  If you use conventional oil, or even synthetic blend engine oil and you want the most life out of your engine, change your oil every 3000 miles and use a reputable brand of oil.  It will cost a little more to use a good oil, but the benifits of getting possibly another 50,000 to 75,000 miles out of your engine far outway the small increase in price.  The internet loves to hammer this logic saying that it's "price gouging" or it's a "rip off".  Having to replace your engine at 150,000 miles versus 200,000 miles because the oil change interval was stretched and you were told it was ok is a rip off. Lets face it, Even if you are an "every 3000 mile person"  do you really make it in right at 3000 miles?  Most likely not.  Most likely you're showing up around 3500 to 4500 so if you are shooting for 7500, it could be 8000 to 9000 before you ever actually make it in for service.

The same goes for other services such as transmission flushes, coolant change services, and fuel injection cleanings. I urge you to do the math and see for yourself.

Now in no way shape or form am I saying that if you follow your manufacturers recommend maintenance intervals will your vehicle explode into a ball of flames and neither am I saying if you follow our recommendations will you never have such failure. There are lots of factors
