HEATING AND AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEMS
If you've been reading the other sections describing the various vehicle systems you are probably aware of the complexity of most systems on your vehicle.  The climate control system is no different.  Using a network of electric motors, vacuum motors, blowers, and in the case of automatic temperature control, various in-cab temperature sensors, ambient temperature sensors, sun load sensors and all the driver input buttons and dials, it's easy to see that the days of a temperature slider lever and blower switch are gone.  When the cold air goes warm or the warm air goes cold, only a qualified technician with the proper equipment should service your climate control system.  In the case of the air conditioning, it's the law!

AIR CONDITIONING
What's so special about air conditioning?  Why can't i just go to the parts store and shoot a can of freon in it?  For starters the air conditioning system while at rest is under roughly 100 psi of pressure.  If something blows off, that's enough to hurt you.  If your skin comes in contact with the liquid refrigerant it will freeze on contact.  When the system is operating, pressures can go above 300 psi which is roughly 8 times the amount of air pressure in your tires!  Dangerous!  Leave A/C service to the professionals!
Most common problems with air conditioning systems include refrigerant leaks.  Refrigerant can leak from just about anywhere in the system and we have special equipment for pinpointing leaks in the system.  If a leak cannot be detected initially, UV dye can be added to the system and at a later date can be detected using a black light.  This is only one of many problems that can affect proper A/C performance.
The A/C compressor requires lubricant that circulates in the system with the refrigerant.  If the system develops a leak, lubricant along with refrigerant will escape.  If a system that is leaking is constantly topped off with refrigerant, the compressor lubricant will drop to a level that damages the compressor resulting in a very costly repair.  Some drive belt systems will not allow for the belt to be routed without the compressor, so it is very important to have any problems with the A/C system repaired as soon as possible.
We are fully equipped to comply with all laws governing the proper recovering and recycling and service procedures.  Let our professionals get the air cool again!

HEATING
The heater system uses hot coolant from the engine circulated through a heater core located behind the dash.  The blower blows air through the heater core and hot air comes out of the vents.  This system is quite simple.  However, if the heater core develops a coolant leak, it can be extremely difficult to replace.  In some cases the entire dash board must be completely removed from the vehicle!
Some common problems with heater systems are restricted coolant passages in the heater core, low engine coolant level, stuck open thermostat not allowing engine to reach normal operating temperature, or problems with the control system for selecting hot or cold air.
